              SHOJO LIDDED INCENSE BURNER
              Bronze. Japan, Meiji period
              Modelled as two laughing and dancing
              shojo, ‘drunken sprites’, one holding
              a fan and the other holding a sake
              cup. They are standing next to a large
              lidded jar, filled to the brim with sake,
              even overflowing. The entire bronze is
              incised with fine floral decorations, as
              are the robes which are decorated with
              splendid detail.
