 the opaque jet-black square seal carved in high relief with a   YUAN DYNASTY
 turtle, the area between the turtle’s legs hollowed out, the seal   of globular form with rounded sides, inlaid on the exterior
 face left uncarved  with ruyi-shaped cartouches enclosing floral scrollwork,
 h. 3 cm, 1⅛ in.  supported on a broad circular tray with an upturned rim,
            similarly decorated with lobed cartouches with figures, all

            above a flaring foot further inlaid with a floral scroll, the interior

 A RARE CINNABAR LACQUER ‘FLORAL’ BOX AND
 COVER
 INCISED MARK AND PERIOD OF YONGLE
 the cover carved with various flowers borne on leafy stems,
 the base similarly decorated, the interiors and recessed base
 lacquered brown, the latter with a six-character reign mark,
 Japanese wood box

 A slightly smaller box, originally inscribed with a Yongle mark
 which is now effaced, from the Baoyizhai collection, was sold in
 these rooms, 8th October 2014, lot 3211; and another Yongle
 mark and period example from the Lee family collection,
 carved with peonies, was sold at Christie’s Hong Kong, 3rd
 December 2008, lot 2116.
