           EXHIBITED
Famille Verte from Private Collections, Marchant, London,
           2021, cat. no. 12.
Exquisitely painted with magpies, butterflies and dragonflies
all in pairs amongst chrysanthemums and othe florals, the
present vase is replete with auspicious meaning. Magpies
and chrysanthemums both represent an auspicious wish
for happiness whereas butterflies are often associated
with freedom. Combined with dragonflies, which is often
associated with peace and harmony, the vase is thus a
fitting gift for marital bliss. Motifs of birds and flowers were
commonly seen decorating vases of this kind as they were a
pleasing subject to brilliantly showcase the vibrant enamels
the kilns have perfected during the Kangxi period.

butterflies and rockwork, in the Qing Court Collection,
