Masterfully carved, the present jade carving depicts a
vivacious heavenly horse galloping across roiling waves with
a ribbon-tied bundle of scrolls. Known to be an auspicious
omen, the heavenly horse is said to only appear when a ruler
is just and virtuous.

previously in the Qing Court Collection, illustrated in The
Complete Collection of Treasures of the Palace Museum,
Jadeware (III) vol. 42, Hong Kong, 1996, pl. 90; and another
from the collection of Alan and Simone Hartman, included
