A large black-ground green-
enamelled ‘hydrangea’ vase,
tianqiuping
18th/19th century
Densely enamelled on the bulbous body in green
hue with four large roundels, each enclosing
a brilliantly-blooming hydrangea issuing from
undulating leafy chrysanthemum scrolls, divided
by four scrolling lotus sprays, the neck decorated
with the Eight Buddhist Emblems surrounded
by stylised lotus scrolls, all above angular rocks
amidst rhythmically swirling waves and reserved on
a black ground.
