A pair of flambé-glazed Buddhist
lions
19th century
The pair modelled seated, one with its face turned
to the right and the other with its face turned to the
left, the front legs straight and the hind legs tucked
underneath and each tail sweeping up towards one
knee, the mouth grinning fiercely to reveal rows of
teeth, the eyes modelled separately and fitting into
the sockets beneath the bushy brows, all covered
with a flambé glaze streaking between the creamy-
glazed relief details, wood stands.
The taller 33cm (13in) high (4).
