           A GARNITURE OF FIVE LARGE BLUE AND WHITE FLUTED AND
           ‘LOTUS PETAL’-MOLDED VASES
           Kangxi
           Comprising three slender baluster vases with covers and two gu-
           shaped beaker vases, the slender baluster vases with shallow vertical
           fluting to the central sections, set between molded ‘lotus petal’
           lappets at the feet and shoulders below the tall slightly waisted necks,
           all painted in strong cobalt tones with leafy stems with composite
           flowerheads that rise and coil to each section, below matching covers,
           the gu-shaped beaker vases similarly molded and painted. (5)
           baluster vases and covers: 22in (55.9cm) high overall
           beaker vases: 19 3/4in (50.2cm) high

           Such vessels were exceedingly popular amongst the aristocracy of
           Europe and Great Britain and would have been placed atop the stone
           or wood mantles that surrounded the fireplaces in the great halls or
           entrances of these grand houses.
