A FINE AND LARGE FAMILLE-VERTE ‘SHOU MEDALLION’ JAR,
GUAN
Kangxi
Of alms bowl form, with globular body, gently rounded shoulders, and
rolled rim, painted with black-outlined ruyi-shaped lappets descending
from the shoulder and suspending profiled lotus flowerheads and
scrolls, and with six alternate iron-red and aubergine shou medallions
above lappets encircling the foot, above an unglazed, wide wedge-
shaped foot ring and concave unglazed base.

Compare with another Kangxi period famille verte double-gourd vase
in the Qing Court collection, illustrated in The Complete Collection
of the Treasures of the Palace Museum: Porcelains in Polychrome
and Contrasting Colors, Shenzhen, 2007, p. 84, no. 77, that has
very similar decoration on the lower half to the present lot including
enameled shou characters.
