EIGHTEEN THAI-MARKET BENCHARONG WARES
19th century
Comprising two pedestal jars and stepped stupa covers, each painted
with delicate ‘Indian miniature’ floral stems, one on a red ground, the
other on a white ground, between further floral bands and supported
on a spreading foot; three miniature lobed jars and covers, with
slender vertical stylized floral stem panels; two wine cups with flaring
rims, painted with three Buddhist lions on a black enamel ground; a
foliate dish with radiating floral panels on a red ground, the exterior
with a gold-iridescent crackled glaze and a biscuit foot ring and base
centered by a four-character seal; a foliate pedestal dish with radiating
floral panels on a green ground to the center and a red ground at the
rim and exterior sides; a bowl with floral lotus petal panels on colored
grounds, with a copper rim and copper band at the foot; five saucer
dishes, three with radiating floral panels at the center and two with
lotus petals at the center, the exteriors plain; two footed covers, the
larger with a stylized floral pattern against a gilt ground, the other with
a floral and bird band on a red ground; and a small domed cover with
narrow colored ground bands with scrolls and flowers. (18)
