                                                                              the figure seated on a kang-form base, with
                                                                              characteristic high domed forehead, thick
                                                                              unruly brows and long beard, the hair tied
                                                                              back and falling down the back in two sections,
                                                                              dressed in long robes with the left arm partially
                                                                              outstretched holding a scroll, a small attendant
                                                                              to one side, gilt in areas including the deity’s
                                                                              wrinkled forehead and scroll (2)

                                                                              17TH CENTURY
                                                                              comprising two smiling and play-fighting boys,
                                                                              one standing with a foot in the air and holding
                                                                              a toy axe-head cast emerging from a dragon
                                                                              mouth, one tuft of hair flicked up from the
                                                                              motion, the other boy leaning forward with
                                                                              hands and feet on the ground, dressed in a robe
                                                                              tied at the waist, all richly gilded, the standing
                                                                              boy affixed to the wood stand (2)
