A RARE PAIR OF FAMILLE ROSE AND SEPIA AND GILT-
DECORATED ‘FALCONRY’ CANDLESTICKS
Qianlong period, circa 1760-80
Of European silver shape, the ribbed and waisted candle holders and
stems painted with alternate bands of landscape vignettes and floral
decoration in famille rose, iron-red and grisaille and gilt, the octagonal
bases centered by a circular concave drip-pan painted with a rare
Chinese scene of falconers, one with a hawk on his raised hand, and
with other assistants releasing hounds which race towards an injured
goose with a pavilion entrance nearby, the narrow sides of the base
with further landscape and floral vignettes.
