A PAIR OF CINNABAR LACQUER CARVED STEM CUPS
16th century
Each carved in relief with continuous scenes of gentlemen seated in
a landscape of pine, paulownia trees and rockwork, before walled
pavilion compounds, within borders of fret design at the rim and foot
and a band of lotus petals encircling the base of the cup, the interiors
gilt lacquered.
Each 7.2cm (2 7/8in) high. (2).

A CINNABAR LACQUER CARVED STEM CUP
16th century
The exterior elaborately and crisply carved with a wide band of four
birds variously perched on rockwork and flying between leafy branches
235 of blossoming peony and prunus, one holding a pomegranate in its
beak, on a lozenge-panel ground, the slender stem with a similar band
of leafy peony, the interior with a worn silver lining.
9cm (3 1/2in) diam.

A MASSIVE POLYCHROME PAINTED STUCCO HEAD OF
GUANYIN
Ming Dynasty
The full face finely modelled with slender bow-shaped eyes and
hooded eyelids, all below arched eyebrows extending to a broad
straight nose and full red lips, the forehead centred with a circular
indentation once holding a jewelled urna, the cheeks flanked by a pair
of long pendulous ears, all below the combed hair piled up to form an
elaborate chignon embellished with a band of flowerheads, stand.
