A BRONZE SEATED FIGURE OF GUANYIN
LATE MING DYNASTY, 16TH-17TH CENTURY
The bodhisattva is shown seated in rajalilasana
with the left leg tucked in front of the body and the
right arm extended on top of the raised right knee,
wearing long beaded necklaces and long robes
tied at the waist and with incised borders that fall
in gentle folds across the body and over the edge
of the base. The face is fnely cast with a gentle,
contemplative expression below the hair, which
is arranged on top of the head behind a tall, fve-
pointed crown centered by the seated fgure of
Amitabha Buddha, and in long knotted plaits that
fall onto the shoulders.
