          AN UNUSUAL DOUCAI DISH
          YONGZHENG SIX-CHARACTER MARK IN UNDERGLAZE BLUE
          WITHIN A DOUBLE CIRCLE AND OF THE PERIOD (1723-1735)
          The dish is decorated on the interior with a roundel depicting immortals
          standing on iron-red clouds as they approach a pavilion surrounded by
          billowing clouds and set amidst rolling waves, with two cranes grasping
          arrows in their beaks in fight above. The exterior is decorated with bats in
          fight amidst rocks and waves beneath a band of scrolling clouds, all within
          double blue line borders.

          PROVENANCE
          The Collection of General Joseph W. Stilwell (1883-1946), acquired in the early
          twentieth century, and thence by descent within the family.
