This fne cast Maitreya statue represents the
bodhisattva of the Future, as can be deduced from
the water pot supported by his right hand. This
attribute, containing the nectar of immortality,
is most likely borrowed from Hinduism. In fact,
Maitreya is supposed to be born in the future in a
Brahmin family. The water pot therefore seems to
           be an appropriate attribute.
