RARE STATUE DE SYAMATARA EN BRONZE DORE
TIBET, CIRCA XVEME SIECLE
Elle est représentée assise en lalitasana sur une base lotiforme. Ses
mains en varadamudra et vitarkamudra tiennent des tiges de lotus
dont l'extrémité est manquante. Elle est parée de bijoux précieux
incrustés. Son visage serein est surmonté d'un haut chignon rehaussé
d'une représentation miniature de Bouddha ; traces de dorure à froid.

Montméat

Syamatara is the ‘granter of all wishes’ and is the original Tara who
gave rise to all the other manifestions known as White Tara (Sitatara),
Yellow Tara (Bhrikuti), Blue Tara (Ekajata) and Red Tara (Kurukulla).
She is thought to represent the night with her half-opened eyes and
half-opened lotus. Syamatara complements her companion, Sitatara
(White Tara), who symbolises the day.
This green Tara was possibly cast by Nepalese artists in Tibet.
