A CLOISONNÉ ENAMEL ‘SCHOLARLY
ACCOMPLISHMENTS’ BASIN
Late Ming Dynasty
The interior boldly enamelled depicting nine scholars and their
attendants engaged in the ‘Four Scholarly Accomplishments’,
with two pairs playing weiqi next to fenced lotus pond, a group
in the pavilion admiring a painting and playing a qin, and further
two greeting each other in the garden set, the white-ground
cavetto decorated with six cartouches enclosing various flowers,
the everted rim decorated with chi-dragons reserved on a white
ground, the exterior similarly decorated with floral patterns
reserved on white and dark blue grounds.
