A PAIR OF HUANGHUALI ‘SOUTHERN OFFICIAL’S HAT’ ARMCHAIRS, NANGUANMAOYI
17TH CENTURY
Each has a curved crest rail supported on curved rear posts and an S-shaped back splat. The
arm rails are supported on slender standing stiles that terminate in the front posts above the
mat seat, and beaded, cusped aprons and spandrels. The whole is raised on legs of round
section joined by a foot rest in the front and stepped stretchers at the sides and back.
