A GILT COPPER ALLOY FIGURE OF
BHAISAJYAGURU
Tibet, 15th/16th Century
the Medicine Buddha seated in dhyanasana on
a double lotus base with a beaded edge, with his
left hand holding a bowl filled with amrita, his right
hand holding a myrobalan fruit, the face serene
with each feature composed and natural, the
elongated ears slightly flaring over the shoulders,
with upturned lips, a narrow and elongated nose
underscored by the gentle and sinuous contours
of the eyes and eyebrows, the delineated curls
of the head with a tall and prominent ushnisha
crowned with a bud, the body draped with a
sanghti with an incised hem cascading into folds
by the feet
