AN EXCEPTIONALLY RARE AND LARGE SILVER
AND COPPER-INLAID BRONZE FIGURE OF
ELEVEN-HEADED AVALOKITESHVARA

TIBET, 15TH CENTURY

The multi-armed deity stands in a graceful posture with hips swayed, with
the principle hands joined together in anjalimudra in front of the chest. He is
clad in an ankle-length dhoti with cascading folds and adorned with various
jewellry, some inset with turquoise and others copper-inlaid. The eleven faces
are arranged in tiers, some peaceful and others wrathful, with silver-inlaid
eyes and teeth and copper-inlaid lips, each with remains of cold gold on the
face and polychromy in the hair and surmounted by a foliate tiara inset with
semi-precious stones.

西藏 十五世紀 銅十一面觀音立像

觀音立姿，微傾，姿態頎秀，前兩臂於前胸合十。下身繫長裙，飾以波浪紋
衣褶，上有瓔珞，鑲嵌綠松石或紅銅。十一面堆疊而上，有慈悲相亦有憤怒
相，眼睛、牙齒以銀鑲嵌，嘴唇則鑲紅銅。每一面上有泥金，髮上有彩繪，
各帶寶冠。
