                                             (BOX FOR WRITING UTENSILS) AND COVER
                                             Taisho (1912-1926) or Showa (1926-1989) era, circa 1915-1940
                                             The copper-alloy rectangular box with rounded corners, slightly convex
                                             overlapping lid, the outside of the lid decorated in relief, slight gilding,
                                             and enamels with a Rinpa-style depiction of Mount Fuji, clouds, and a
                                             pine-clad shore, the interior covered in lacquer-soaked cloth flecked
                                             with gold leaf, containing a fitted hardwood board with a brush-rest
                                             and recesses for a partially lacquered suzuri (ink stone) and a copper-
                                             alloy suiteki (water-dropper) decorated in enamels with chidori (plovers
                                             or dotterels) above drying fishing nets; containing a brochure and
                                             postcard of the Ando Company, both datable to 1937; with a wood
                                             storage box. 8.5cm x 18cm x 26.5cm (3 3/8in x 7 1/8in x 10 3/8in). (7).
