FAMILLE-VERTE ‘IMMORTALS’
VASE
QING DYNASTY, KANGXI PERIOD
the heavily potted square-section body with
tapered rectangular sides rising from a splayed
foot, the tapering shoulder panels rising to a
ared neck and a galleried rim, each of the four
sides boldly painted in famille-verte enamels
and gilt details with pairs of Daoist Immortals
demonstrating magical powers, the foot, shoulder
and neck with cartouches enclosing grisaille
landscapes and bird and ower scenes, reserved
against wave, prunus and diaper grounds, with
further diaper borders to the neck and rim
