A PALE CELADON JADE OPENWORK
PLAQUE the pebble well-hollowed, the top ridged in ve rounded ribs,
YUAN DYNASTY enframed beneath by shaped panels comprised of chilong
carved in low relief, the front with a cusped reserve enclosing
nely carved in two layers, the outer layer centered on a a frontal dragon in the central panel anked by a pair to either
blossoming lotus surrounded by pod-capped stems and long side and smaller ones coiled along the top outer ridge, the
leaves gently folding in all directions as two birds enter from reverse with a larger and small chilong within a single panel, a
above and below, the under layer of pierced rectangular form small aperture to either side for a pin to secure the tting to
carved with alternating C-scrolls and circles the hair, the stone with pale gray inclusions towards the base

There is a nearly identical example to the present jade in the
PROVENANCE British Museum illustrated in Jessica Rawson, Chinese Jade
Ashkenazie & Co., San Francisco, 1970. from the Neolithic to the Qing, British Museum, London, 1995,
