A RARE LONGQUAN CELADON JAR AND COVER
NORTHERN SONG DYNASTY (AD 960-1127)
The jar has an ovoid body with canted shoulder, and is carved and combed with a band of overlapping
petals beneath a wide band of lotus scroll. The cover is decorated with an animal-form fnial. The jar and
cover are covered with an unctuous glaze of soft sea-green color that thins on the raised areas, and also
covers the inside of the foot.
