good patina and the pupils inlaid.
Lying with its head lowered to the left and its legs drawn in for
compactness. The signature is deeply and confidently engraved, but A similar example, facing in the opposite direction, by Masanao of Ise
size of the work and the style of carving is rather unlike that recognised is illustrated in Harris, HGBM, p.59, no.234.
