A GILT REPOUSSÉ BRONZE FIGURE OF BUDDHA
QIANLONG INCISED SEVEN-CHARACTER MARK IN A HORIZONTAL LINE AND OF THE
PERIOD (1736-1795)
The buddha is elegantly modelled seated on a double-lotus base, with the hands in bhumisparsha mudra
and the face looking downwards with a serene expression. The long fowing robes open at the top of the
chest, with the hair neatly arranged in a top knot. The reign mark Da Qing Qianlong nian jing zao (made
devotedly during the Qianlong period) is incised to the front edge of the base, beside the characters cai tian
fo (the Buddha of Caitian) and further lanca characters.
