A BLUE AND WHITE DISH
220 JIAJING SIX-CHARACTER MARK IN UNDERGLAZE
BLUE AND OF THE PERIOD (1522-1566)
The dish has fared, rounded sides, and is
decorated in the somewhat concave center
of the interior with fve deer in a landscape
setting in which a turtle is seen swimming
below a waterfall that cascades from the
rocks above. On the exterior are three
vignettes depicting pairs of birds perched
in a fruiting peach tree below a double-line
border and above a band of classic scroll on
the foot.

PROVENANCE:
Acquired in the United States in the early
20th century, and thence by descent within
the family.
Compare the Jiajing-marked blue and white dish
of this pattern illustrated in Transitional Wares

no. 1.

A WUCAI WEIQI JAR
WANLI SIX-CHARACTER MARK IN UNDERGLAZE
BLUE WITHIN A DOUBLE CIRCLE AND OF THE
PERIOD (1573-1619)
The deep, rounded sides are decorated with
four dragons in iron red, underglaze blue and
green glaze pursuing faming pearls as they
race between a band of fower-strewn waves
that crash against rocks below, and a band of
classic scroll above. The mark is within the
recessed center of the fat, unglazed base.
