A LARGE DEHUA GROUP OF GUANYIN AND
A CHILD
LATE QING DYNASTY

Guanyin is shown seated on a pierced
rockwork base that supports a vase to one
side, she peers down at the young boy
seated in her lap, who raises his left hand
while holding the stem of a lotus bud in
his right hand. The Goddess of Mercy
wears voluminous robes that drape over her
topknot and he wears an apron. The back
is impressed with a Dehua double-gourd-
shaped mark and a seal mark, He Chao Zong
yin (seal of He Chao Zong).
