his water dropper is molded in the form of a haetae
Tand coated in underglaze cobalt blue pigment. The hole
from which the water is poured is located in the left ear of the
mythical creature and the hole controlling the water flow is
situated on its back.
Haetae are mythical creatures with many auspicious attri-
butes. Among them include the ability to repel fire and pro-
tect against all forms of disruptive change. Their images in
98. stone can be found in Korean palaces and act as guardians.
