A CIZHOU-TYPE POLYCHROME-
DECORATED BALUSTER VASE
MING DYNASTY, 15TH-16TH CENTURY
The wide body is decorated with three shaped panels
enclosing fgures in a riverscape, above a continuous band
of qilin galloping on roiling waves, and beneath a band of
leafy lotus scroll encircling the shoulder.

AN IRON-RED, YELLOW AND GREEN-
ENAMELED VASE, MEIPING
17TH CENTURY
The vase is decorated on one side with a courtier fanked
by two attendants, beside an immortal holding a scepter
standing on billowing clouds, and on the reverse with a
lady seated in a garden beside a rabbit on further clouds,
all above a band of boys amidst lotus scroll on the waisted
lower section. The base is inscribed with an apocryphal
Jiajing mark.
