                                                            A STONE HEAD OF A BODHISATTVA

                                                                                  NORTHERN ZHOU-SUI DYNASTY (AD 557-618)

                                                                                                                    The face is carved with a gentle expression and heavy-lidded eyes below
                                                                                                                    curved brows. The hair is shown drawn up under and behind a braided diadem
                                                                                                                    centered by a large plaque carved in the center with a fower head decorated
                                                                                                                    with a beaded tassel. A square socket is carved in the back of the head.
