the rounded sides rising from three feet, worked to the the flattened pear-shaped body rising from a spreading
exterior in low relief with a floral scroll, interrupted by loop foot to a waisted neck, flanked by a pair of loop handles
handles suspending loose rings, the stone of an even pale suspending loose rings, the exterior worked in high relief with
celadon colour clambering chilongs atop a band of stylised taotie masks in
33.7 cm, 13¼ in. low relief, below a band of archaistic scrolls around the neck,
the domed cover with a flat top and incised with further

A smaller yellow jade ‘chilong’ covered vase incised with a
Qianlong mark and of the period, but without loose rings,
formerly in the Virginia Museum of Art, was sold in our New
York rooms, 24th March 1998, lot 347 (part lot), again at
Christie’s Hong Kong, 3rd November 1998, lot 879 and in
these rooms, 7th April 2015, lot 3630. See also an example
without loose rings from the Irving Collection, sold at
Christie’s New York, 20th March 2019, lot 803. A further
white jade example with three clambering chilong in high
relief was sold in our London rooms, 28th October 1983, lot
215.
