Goddess Vimala is the tantric consort of Lord Jagannath, “Lord of
the Universe,” a central deity worshipped in regional traditions in
eastern India and Bangladesh. The Vimala Temple is located within the
Jagannath Temple complex in Puri, Odisha. Vimala guards the temple
complex, so visitors must pay a visit to her temple and consecrate their
offerings before seeking blessings from Jagannath. She is considered
the shakti of Vishnu and Shiva and during Durga Puja, she appears as
both Durga the demon-slayer and the warrior form of Lakshmi. The
Vimala Temple is considered to be a Shakti Pitha, important centers of
goddess-focused worship in Hindu traditions.
