LACQUER CIRCULAR BOX AND COVER
Junyu Shi seal mark, 17th century
The cover exquisitely inlaid in iridescent
mother-of-pearl and gold-leaf with a scholar
reclining on his guqin while reading a book
beside a boy attendant, all beneath a craggy
cliff issuing gnarled pine, the interior of the
cover with a bird on a branch and two seals,
Zhao and Shi, the box with two antique
vessels in the interior, signed on the base
with the seal mark Junyu Shi inlaid in mother-
of-pearl. 9cm (3 1/2in) diam. (2).
