Leslie Gifford Kilborn was born into a family of missionary doctors who resided in China from 1891 to 1960. The Kilborns advanced
the knowledge of Western medicine in China, and helped established the West China Union University in Chengdu, a highly
regarded medical university that is still in operation today. Over the years, they amassed a wide range of Chinese art and antiques,
many gifted to them by high officials and dignitaries.
