       Skillfully fashioned, the present figure embodies the stylistic influence of Yang Yuxuan and Zhou Bin, two of the best known and
       talented masters in soapstone carving. Compare related soapstone figures in this stylistic context, such as one depicted in a
       similar seated pose on a rockwork base, but holding a long scarf in the hands, attributed to the 18th century, sold at Christie's
       London, 10th May 2011, lot 44; and another without the base, carved holding a peach, with the face rendered in a similar
       style, attributed to the 17th or 18th century, sold at Christie's New York, 21st-22nd March 2013, lot 1365.
