1321 A MINIATURE LACQUER CARRIAGE FOR THE GIRLS’ FESTIVAL
JAPAN, EDO PERIOD, 19TH CENTURY
Of lacquered wood, constructed of multiple parts with sliding doors on each
side, windows on each side with slats and detachable brocade-mounted
bamboo blinds, the carriage decorated in mura nashiji over black lacquer with
fying cranes and young pine in gold hiramaki-e, gilt copper engraved fttings,
on black lacquer stand and with ftted wood storage box, carrying handle in
separate ftted wood box
