A RARE PAIR OF BLUE AND WHITE BOWLS
DAOGUANG SEAL MARKS IN UNDERGLAZE BLUE AND OF THE PERIOD
(1821-1850)
Each bowl is potted with steep sides rising to the rim, the exterior decorated with two
archaic pottery roof tile fragments, an inscription in seal script and two inscriptions in
archaic bronze script, all with transcriptions in kaishu. One side is decorated with a lengthy
inscription written in kaishu, the interior is decorated with a stylized four-point fower head.

Private collection, Wales, acquired in London in the 1950s.
A very similar Daoguang blue and white bowl of smaller size was sold at Christie’s
New York, 22-23 March 2012, lot 2019.
