A RARE ARCHAIC JADE HUMAN-FIGURE PENDANT
Neolithic Period, Hongshan Culture
Well carved in a squatting position with both elbows bent in front of
the body and the hands held under the chin, the back of the neck
with two pierced holes, the stone of opaque buff tone with brown
markings, box.

新石器時代 紅山文化 玉雕神人
Compare with a jade human figure, Hongshan culture, in the Chan-
chi-hsuan collection, depicted with a similar posture, illustrated in
Jades of Hongshan Culture, Aurora Art Museum, Taipei, 2007, pl.39.
See also a jade figure from the Neolithic period, excavated from the
Lingjiatan burial site in Anhui Province in 1987, now in the Palace
Museum, Beijing, illustrated in Compendium of Collection in the
Palace Museum: Jade 1 Neolithic Age, Beijing, 2011, pl.65.
玉呈黃褐色,玉人濃眉大眼,兩臂彎曲,雙手置於胸前,大腿寬大,
腿顯短,似為蹲踞狀。類似的紅山文化玉神人雕像,參考暫集軒藏
一例,著錄於《紅山玉器》,震旦藝術博物館,台北,2007年,圖
版39。另參考1987年安徽省凌家灘出土一件新石器時代的玉人,現
藏於北京故宮博物院,見《故宮博物院藏品大系:玉器編1新石器時
代》,北京,2011年,圖版65。
