A CARVED CINNABAR LACQUER ‘DRAGON’
BRUSH AND COVER
Ming Dynasty
The cylindrical shaft vividly carved with a ferocious
scaly dragon writhing amidst undulating ruyi-shaped
cloud scrolls, all reserved on a diaper floral ground
below a trefoil collar terminating in a flowerhead
pommel, the other end enclosing the hair brush, the
cover similarly carved.

Compare a closely related carved cinnabar lacquer
‘dragon’ brush and cover, Wanli mark and period,
which was sold at Christie’s Hong Kong, 27
November 2017, lot 8103.

通體雕朱漆，錦紋地上雕雲龍紋，管帽端飾花紋，
刀法嫻熟流暢。香港佳士得曾售出一件明萬曆帶款
剔紅龍紋筆，可資比較，2017年11月27日，拍品
編號8103。
