                                       Halberd

        ji

The halberd is an ancient Chinese weapon which is often used as a motif in ornamental
and decorative art. It symbolises luck, happiness (ji homonym of ji = halberd); or it may
be a way of wishing the recipient good luck in his examinations (ji = rank, grade).

                                 Three halberds in a vase

A frequent grouping shows a vase with three halberds in it and a musical
stone: fish hang on the halberds and there is an axe beside them.
