ji
Like the cock, the hen, or even the picture of a hen, can drive away evil spirits:
they are afraid of it. In North China and Korea, the hen was the object of a special cult.
It was taboo in these regions to eat poultry, and both cocks and hens were reared not for
their eggs and meat but for their long tails and for their ability to crow well.
