A certain kind of oyster found in the province of Fukien is called li. Because
of phonetic similarity, this suggests ti = male child (normally used as meaning
‘younger brother’).
In Japan and Korea, the female genitalia are called ‘mussels’. In Taiwanese, the word
la = mussel has the same connotation.
