17th century with early 20th century modifications
The curved crestrail supported on the gently curved back splat, carved
with a ruyi-shaped panel enclosing entwined leafy vines, the stiles
tennoned just below the protruding ends of the crestrail and continuing
through the seat frame forming the back legs, the arms supported by
curved side posts and goose-neck front posts, extending to form the
front legs, the rectangular seat frame enclosing a hard woven mat, the
straight legs joined by a cusped apron carved with scrolling vines and
a foot rest in the front, curved aprons above stretchers to the sides
and a simple apron and stretcher in the rear, the wood of a rich honey
tone.
