A FINE WHITE GLAZED ANHUA ‘DRAGON’ A closely related bowl from the collection of Dr Ip Yee, included
BOWL in the Min Chiu Society exhibition Monochrome Ceramics of
KANGXI MARK AND PERIOD Ming and Ch’ing Dynasties, Hong Kong Museum of Art, Hong
Kong, 1977, cat. no. 134, was sold in our Hong Kong rooms,
the rounded sides rising from a tapered foot to a slightly 22nd May 1985, lot 200; another in the collection of Brian
everted rim, covered in a pale white glaze, the exterior McElney was included in the exhibition Porcelains of the High
decorated in anhua with two striding ve-clawed dragons, in Qing, Art Gallery of Greater Victoria, Victoria, 1983, cat. no. 32;
pursuit of ‘ aming pearls’, the base with a six-character mark and a third, in the Baur collection, is illustrated in John Ayers,
in underglaze blue The Baur Collection, Geneva. Chinese Ceramics, vol. 3, Geneva,
16 cm, 6¼ in. 1972, pl. A408. Further bowls of this type were sold at auction;
two were sold in these rooms, the rst, 11th July 1978, lot 207,
PROVENANCE and the second, 9th December 1986, lot 268; another was sold
S. Marchant and Son, London (according to label). in our Hong Kong rooms, 24th May 1978, lot 183; and a fourth
bowl from the collection of Stephen Junkunc III, was sold at
£ 30,000-50,000 Christie’s New York, 19th March 2008, lot 648.
