QING DYNASTY, QIANLONG PERIOD
the square tapering body rising from a short spreading foot to
an angled shoulder and short aring neck, brightly enamelled
to each face of the body with a taotie mask divided by gilt-
bronze notched anges, repeated at the corners, the foot and
neck with stylised lotus and dragon bands similarly divided, the
shoulder set with a pair of dragon handles

of square section, the rounded sides rising from a tall
spreading foot to a waisted neck and straight rim, with two
applied gilt-bronze lion mask-ring handles to the shoulder,
166 decorated in bright enamels with a bird perched on owering
branches of peony issuing from rockwork, all reserved on a
turquoise ground, between wide bands of scrolling lotus at the
foot and at the neck
