JAR AND COVER
Style of Honda Yosaburo of Kyoto,
Meiji era (1868-1912),
late 19th/early 20th century
Worked in silver wire with opaque and
translucent enamels with a wide lappet band
of phoenix alternating with dragon cartouches
beneath a narrow band of repeated ho-o birds
in flight among karakusa (‘Chinese grasses’),
the neck with formal and archaic motifs, the
cover with stylised flowers and foliage on a
ground flecked with aventurine, the large oval
cover surmounted by a chrysanthemum bud
finial; unsigned.
