Old huanghuali furniture have often been restored or
converted in the past centuries to spare the precious wood.
The present bed is likely to be the lower section of a larger
144 canopy bed, now reduced in width and adapted as a couch-
bed, Luohan chuang.

comprising a powerful and fiercely modelled seated male
lion with brocade ball and matching female with cub, both
with tightly scrolling manes and bell and tassel-ornamented
bands across their broad chests, each with associated
rectangular stands modelled with brocade covers
