blée par les grands parents de l’actuel propriétaire, es-
sentiellement à partir d’acquisitions en ventes publiques
à Londres et auprès de marchands historiques d’art
chinois comme Spink & Son, Ltd., du début des années
1960 jusqu’au milieu des années 1980. Les échanges
épistolaires touchants entre le collectionneur et de
grandes figures historiques de l’art chinois tel Anthony
du Boulay, relatant dans ses courriers les batailles
d’enchères épiques pour acquérir certaines pièces tel le
merveilleux petit cheval en jade jaune de l’époque Yuan-
Ming [lot 11], sont le témoignage d’une extraordinaire
époque de savoir académique et de grande ferveur de
collection pour l’art chinois en Europe.
