142 | BONHAMS A pair of blue and white dragon-decorated dishes
Daoguang six-character marks and of the period
Each molded with a flared rim to the curving well centered with a
roundel of a dragon chasing a flaming pearl and two other dragons in
the same pursuit encircling the exterior walls, the mark in seal script
centering the shallow recessed base and all surfaces except the foot
pad covered with a celadon-tinged glaze.

A blue and white stick-neck vase
Guangxu six-character mark and of the period
Molded with a tall waisted neck, raised string bands encircling the
shoulder above the globular body raised on a tall foot ring, the exterior
sides decorated in varied horizontal repeating bands of stylized lotus
and vine, plantain leaves, ruyi lappets, and wave patterns all rendered
in several shades of deep cobalt blue, the mark on the recessed base
written in standard script.

The vase is of a well-known type varying slightly in height in published
examples from 15 to 15 3/4 inches (39-40cm). For an example from
the National Palace Museum, Taipei, see H. A. van Oort, Chinese
Porcelain of the 19th and 20th centuries, 1977, Pl. 47, p. 43 (as ca.
39cm high). See also the two vases sold in Christie’s, New York sale
2830, 20-21 March 2014, lot 2161 (as 15 3/4in or 34cm high).

Xuantong marks and of the period
The shallow curving side walls rising to a slightly everted lip, its broad
wells painted in underglaze blue with two phoenixes among clouds,
one with bifurcated tail, the other with feathery tail, the exterior side
walls similarly decorated, the underside bearing a six-character mark
encircled by a short foot ring.
